BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Piedmont University track & field program traveled their group of throwers to the Sewanee Tiger Invitational Saturday afternoon, with senior Nakiyah Washington grabbing fourth place in the shot put.

Washington tossed 11.04m for fourth place in the women's shot put as Piedmont traveled a small group to compete this weekend. Her distance placed her just .03 meters behind the third place competitor and .11 meters behind the runner-up. Her day continued as she also grabbed a top 10 finish in the women's weight throw with a final distance of 13.31m in the event, securing her seventh place.

In the men's pole vault, Colin Hackshaw grabbed 5th place with a final height of 3.65m.

Freshman Kayla Ward also had a successful day in the women's shot put, grabbing a top 10 finish in the event. Her top distance of 10.71m was enough to secure her seventh place in the meet.

Narrowly missing a top 10 finish, Shealee Gallegos placed 11th in the women's weight throw with a best distance of 11.85m.

Up next, the Lions return to action in the JDL Thursday College Classic on Thursday, February 1.
