BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Piedmont University track & field program returned to Birmingham for the second weekend in a row, this time for the KMS Invite. The meet was highlighted by senior
Gary Halverson winning the men's 800m while fellow senior
Wes Rogers took home first in the men's pole vault.
Halverson's time of 1:58.11 claimed the win in the 800m but it was a tight race all the way to the end. With three other runners in range, the race was decided at the finish line with just .65 seconds between the winner and fourth place. Halverson continued his success at the meet, also taking home second place in the men's mile (4:22.30).
In another heated contest, Rogers narrowly took home the win in the men's pole vault. His height of 3.80m was the highest of the day, with fellow Lion
Colin Hackshaw matching the height. However, Hackshaw missed on his first attempt, thus giving the win to Rogers while Hackshaw took home second himself.
Sophomore
Bella Caccamo claimed a top-10 finish at the meet, running a 1:51.62 in the women's 600m. She bested the runner directly beside her by just .05 seconds.
In the men's 60m hurdles finals, sophomore
Silas Goolsby turned in a 9.11 for seventh place.
Sophomore
Skyler Seeber claimed second place in the longest event of the meet as she ran a 11:08.25 in the women's 3000m. Teammate
Hannah Marlowe also claimed a top-10 finish in the same event with a PR performance of 11:59.49.
Taking home a top-10 finish, the team of Goolsby,
Chris Donsereaux,
Tucker Pulliam and
Parker Snelson ran a combined 3:39.81 in the men's 4x400 relay.
Freshman
Allison Cantrell continued to impress, taking home 8th place in the women's long jump (4.55m). Senior
Kai Doyle also took home a top-five finish, earning fourth place in the women's triple (10.18m). Senior Samantha Seymour finished directly behind Doyle in the event, claiming fifth place with a best distance of 9.59m.
In the men's shot put, Piedmont earned two top-10 finishes, with sophomore
Kerrigan McClain tossing 10.90m for ninth while freshman
Matthew Blocksom tossed 10.54m for 10th.
In the women's weight throw, freshman
Shealee Gallegos tossed a best distance of 12.16m, good enough for a seventh place finish. Junior
Allie Feltus placed one spot lower, throwing 11.06m for eighth place. On the men's side, freshman
Ethan Butler-Paige also claimed seventh with a 12.17m toss. Directly behind him was fellow Lion
Kerrigan McClain with a 11.91m best.
Up next, the Lions travel to Sewanee for the Sewanee Tiger Invitational on Saturday, January 27.
