Volleyball Drops Home Match to Bob Jones

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Bob Jones 3, Piedmont 0
Records: Piedmont, 5-8 ; Bob Jones 14-2

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont volleyball team was unable to slow down Bob Jones in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday night at Cave Arena.

The Bruins took control of each set midway through and held off Piedmont rallies in the first two sets to grab control of the match and run away with the third and final set.

Reigning CCS Player of the Week KATIE HUBBARD led the Lions with nine kills while two time CCS Rookie of the Week KAYLEE ASHCRAFT tied for the team lead with 18 digs and was second on the squad with seven kills.

Senior libero TAYLOR HERRMANN provided 18 digs to tie Ashcraft. Prior to the contest, Herrmann was presented an honorary plaque as an NCAA Statistical Champion from the 2022 season for digs per set.

The Bruins jumped out to a lead midway through the first set. However, the Lions made a furious rally, winning five straight points to knot the score at 17-all. Bob Jones called a timeout and was able to recover, pulling away to take the opening set, 25-21.

The second set saw more of the same, but this time the Bruins made a late push to separate from Piedmont. The Lions did make a late rally, forcing another Bruins timeout. Unfortunately, the rally started too late as Bob Jones closed out the set at 25-21 again.

Piedmont showed some fight in the third set holding a slim lead early on. However, the Bruins ripped off a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 20-14 and the deficit for the Lions was too much to overcome.

Bob Jones was led by Victoria Glaze, who contributed a match-high 13 kills on the night.

Up next, the Lions will head back into CCS play, as they travel to take on Agnes Scott Wednesday in Decatur. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Leading 2-0, the Bruins reeled off six straight points to gain a comfortable edge in the third and final set to close out the sweep.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- This marks the sixth time this season that Ashcraft has reached double digits in digs.
- Setter VANESSA MANZO led the team with 25 assists.
