SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Piedmont men's tennis team opened its non-exhibition fall slate at the ITA South Regionals, held in Sewanee, Tennessee this past weekend.
Overall, 13 Lions competed in the event, which took place over four days, from Thursday, September 21 through Sunday, September 24.
Against a slew of difficult opponents, Piedmont picked up 11 overall singles wins and six doubles victories in the event.
On the doubles side, junior
ALBERTO NUNEZ and sophomore
CONNOR PHELPS rebounded from dropping their first match in the Doubles Main Draw to take the title in the Main Draw Consolation Doubles bracket with three consecutive victories.

The duo picked up wins against opponents from Brevard (8-5) and Methodist (8-4) before outlasting a duo from Centre, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 11-9 on Sunday to win the consolation draw.
The team of
MIKE PORCELLI and
YANNICK WASSMER NAVARRO won their first match together, while
BRYCE VANORDER and
KODY DILLS also picked up a win. Finally, freshman
BRENT SHERMAN picked up his first collegiate victory, teaming with
SIMON JOHNSTONE to go 1-2 in doubles play.
On the singles side, it was another freshman leading the squad, as newcomer
CHARLES PARNELL went 3-1, winning his first three matches out of the gate to reach the semifinals of the Purple Singles Draw.

In total, nine different Lions picked up at least one singles victory.
