LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Piedmont University baseball team held on for a 4-2 victory at Covenant Thursday in the lone contest of the series to be played this weekend. The two were scheduled for a three game series in CCS play, but with the forecast for the weekend, just Thursday's contest will be played this weekend with game two of the stretch set for Tuesday.

It was a quiet game through the first three innings as it was scoreless until Piedmont tacked on two in the top of the fourth. KOLTON HICKS doubled to start the frame and CARTER BALLSTADT drove him in with an RBI single.

Ballstadt was later driven in by MAC BARTON to put the Lions up 2-0. In the fifth, Piedmont got back to work in the fifth inning as Ballstadt recorded another RBI single to put Piedmont up 3-0.

It wasn't until the seventh inning that the Scots were able to get on the scoreboard with one run on one hit and an error to cut into Piedmont's lead 3-1.

BODIE EILERTSON pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run giving up seven hits and struck out four. ZACH COURTWRIGHT made a brief appearance in the eighth facing three batters as the Scots were able to tack on another run making it 3-2 before BRADEN SIMMS entered to close it out.

Piedmont added an insurance run with a homerun in the ninth thanks to Isaac Mullanack to provide the final scoreline of 4-2.

Simms earned the save giving him his fourth of the season while Eilertson's record improved to 6-1. Covenant had nine hits to Piedmont's eight.
