Game two: Piedmont 12, Maryville 2
Records: Piedmont, 22-16 (8-9 CCS); Maryville, 22-15 (6-12 CCS)

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University baseball team used a major offensive day to claim a doubleheader sweep of Maryville on senior day. There was no doubt from the start as Piedmont scored 13 runs in the first inning to open up the onslaught with a 19-3 win in game one and a 12-2 victory in game two.

Both games were decided by run rule in the seventh inning.

Game one: Piedmont 19, Maryville 3

Game one was never in doubt, though the Scots were the first on the board with a run in the first. In the home half of the inning though, the Lions exploded for 13 runs on eight hits and a pair of errors. The Lions forced two pitching changes in the first inning alone.

In total, the Scots used five pitchers for the six innings of game one, with Jacob Kerr taking the brunt of the work pitching 4.1 innings. The Lions had a total of 14 hits in the game with three errors by the Scots.

Piedmont was gifted seven walks and a hit by pitch as well. For the Lions, starter ADAM METIVIER earned the win going six innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Game two: Piedmont 12, Maryville 2

Game two saw Piedmont strike first with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Maryville answered back to tie it in the top of the second. The Scots made Head Coach Justin Scali go to the bullpen in the second to relieve starter GARRETT BURTON as DALTON ANDERSON entered with two away in the frame.

Anderson earned the win, his first of his career, pitching 3.1 innings without allowing a run while only allowing four hits to the Scots. Maryville totaled nine hits in game two to Piedmont's 12.

The Lions struck back in the bottom of the second adding three runs to take the lead 5-2. Piedmont doubled that in the third with a five-spot including a CARTER BALLSTADT bases-clearing triple.

Piedmont would tack on two more in the fourth and coast to victory. Four Lions had multi-hit games as KOLTON HICKS, KYLE CARLSON, TYLER NELSON and JAMES WHITMER each had two hits.
Up next, the Lions await the announcement of the CCS Tournament seeding and schedule for postseason play.

TURNING POINT:
--A 13-run first inning for the Lions was the difference in game one.
