JACKSON, Miss. – The Piedmont University softball team advanced to the CCS Tournament Semifinals following a 9-1 run-rule win over Covenant in an elimination game.

EMMA MCBRAYER sat down Covenant in order to start the contest, allowing Piedmont to strike first in the bottom half. The Lions recorded a pair of hits in the inning and capitalized on a Scots mistake to score the first run.

Covenant tied the contest at 1-1 in the top half of the 2nd before Piedmont regained the lead in the bottom half once again. Four singles in a row from LYNDZI PARTLOW, HANNAH SMITH, JASMINE LOWERY and KENNEDY VOTAVA pushed the lead to one before a SAC fly from KARA TAYLOR moved the game to 3-1.

In the 5th, Piedmont rallied for six runs in the inning. KAITLIN ISLEY started the inning with a single and HANNAH MORGAN reached on an error directly after. With one out, Partlow also reached on an error, scoring Isley. Three singles in a row from Smith, Lowery and Votava once again followed, pushing the lead to 6-1.

Taylor then continued her brilliant day, launching a bases clearing, three RBI double to end the contest via run rule 9-1.

Up next, the Lions will take on Belhaven looking to survive with first pitch slated for 11 a.m (ET). Piedmont will need to defeat the Blazers twice in a row to advance to the CCS Championship Series.
