JACKSON, Miss. – The Piedmont University softball team lost in the semifinals to No. 1 seed Belhaven in a five inning run rule. The Lady Lions battled hard, taking a one run game into the bottom of the 4th but a late onslaught from the Blazer blew the game open.
Belhaven struck first, scoring a pair in the bottom of the 1st off starter
RILEY FORD. The contest moved to 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd as the Blazers continued to try to end the contest early.
In the top of the 4th,
KARA TAYLOR led off the inning being hit by a pitch and
MADISON HENRY followed directly after with a walk. Now with two on,
KAITLIN ISLEY dropped a SAC bunt to moved the runners into scoring position and
HANNAH MORGAN capitalized with a two RBI single.
The Blazers stretched the lead back to two in the bottom of the 4th and then exploded for six runs in the 5th. They used five hits and multiple free bases to end the contest in a run rule, 10-2.
