Softball Drops Pair at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Piedmont University softball team dropped a pair of close games to Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday afternoon. Piedmont narrowly fell short in a pitchers duel in game one while the offense was held silent in game two.

GAME 1 - Piedmont 1, Birmingham-Southern 2

Piedmont starter EMMA MCBRAYER and her counterpart BSC Hailee Bryan battled hard to see which pitcher would prevail.

Through the first four frames, neither pitcher budged as both held the offenses quiet. Piedmont remained hitless through three but finally registered a hit in the fourth when McBrayer poked a two-out single.

In the top of the fifth, HANNAH MORGAN led off the inning with a single. Piedmont was able to work her pinch runner HANNAH CALLAWAY to third with two down and a passed ball scored her for the first run of the contest.

The Panthers refused to concede, scratching a run across in the bottom of the 6th and tying the game 1-1. 

Birmingham-Southern walked the game off with a trio of singles in the bottom of the 7th and closed out game one with a final score of 2-1.

GAME 1 - Piedmont 0, Birmingham-Southern 5

Neither offense was able to score in the first pair of frames but the Panthers broke through in the third inning off reliever CARLY FORRESTER. 

Piedmont would have a chance to get back in the contest in the fourth with runners on the corners and one out. However, they were unable to capitalize and the contest remained 3-0.

BSC added late insurance runs to further put the Lady Lions out of the contest. The game concluded 5-0 in favor of the Panthers.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- JASMINE LOWERY went 3-for-7 on the day.
- EMMA MCBRAYER went 1-for-3 in both contests.

UP NEXT:
- Piedmont remains on the road, traveling to Maryville for their final regular season games on Saturday, April 22.
