Lady Lions Clinch Share of CCS Regular Season with 9-0 Sweep of Huntingdon

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team closed out its regular season home slate in style, rolling past Huntingdon 9-0 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Demorest.

The win ensures the Lady Lions will earn at least a share of the CCS regular season crown.

It was business as usual for Piedmont on the court, as it won both contested doubles lines in dominant fashion and won all four of the contested singles lines in straight sets.

With the Hawks having only four available players, Piedmont started the match up 1-0 courtesy of a default win at No. 3 doubles. In the two doubles matches that were played, the Lady Lions lost just one total game, as IMANI VINCENT and ALYSSA MCSPADDEN delivered an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles while ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and MARION SLOYAN also cruised, 8-1.

This effectively clinched the match for Piedmont, as it was able to win at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default, giving them a 5-0 lead and the match.

Playing out the last four matches, the Lions left no doubt, losing just five total games over the four matches. McSpadden improved to a perfect 11-0 in dual singles matches this season, with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Venham (6-1, 6-1), DAKOTA WILKES (6-1, 6-0) and BRI LAIDMAN (6-0, 6-2) also earned clinical wins in straight sets as the Lady Lions completed their fifth shutout in six conference matches.

Up next, Piedmont will go for a fifth straight undefeated conference season as the regular season concludes next Saturday, April 22 at Belhaven. The match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (ET).

NEWS AND NOTES:
- The win gives Piedmont 35 consecutive conference wins as the streak began at the beginning of the 2018 season.
- The win gives Piedmont at least a share of a regular season conference championship for the fifth straight season.
- Piedmont can clinch the CCS regular season title outright with a win next Saturday at Belhaven.
