Lady Lions Blank William Peace in Dominant Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team blanked William Peace University early Saturday afternoon, winning in dominate fashion 18-0. 

It was a full team effort for Piedmont as the team saw nine different ladies score in the contest.

CLARA WELCH and AVA TRANKINA got the scoring started early as the squad jumped out to an early lead. ALY REECE then added a pair to the scoreline and LINDLEY WARD scored just minutes before the end of the period as Piedmont carried a 5-0 lead into the second. 

The Lady Lions wasted no time stretching the lead out to double digits, scoring five goals in the first four minutes of the period. LEAH SHELT, MERRYN BUMPASS, LAURA CRONE and Ward all had goals during the timeframe.

MAGGI SPRATLIN and Ward added two more before the half came to a close with Piedmont leading 12-0.

Piedmont kept the foot on the gas out of the break, with Welch scoring just seconds out of the half. Reece, Trankina and CARSON BEZOLD all added goals in the 3rd period and Piedmont cruised for the remainder of the contest, closing out with a 18-0 win.

Up next, the Lady Lions return to Demorest to take on Huntingdon in a CCS conference matchup on Tuesday, April 4. 

TURNING POINT:
-- Piedmont poured it on in the second, taking a 5-0 lead and stretching it to a 12-0 lead going into halftime.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- AVA TRANKINA scored a hat trick, added 3 assists, 3 caused turnovers and had 5 draw controls in the game.
-- LINDLEY WARD scored a hat trick, added 4 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers and had 6 draw controls in the game. 
-- ALY REECE scored 3 goals and had 2 assists.
-- CLARA WELCH had two goals and added 5 ground balls.
