ORLANDO, Fla. - The Piedmont women's tennis team delivered a dominant doubleheader sweep of Schreiner and Immaculata on Monday morning and into the early afternoon in Orlando.
The Lady Lions began day two of their spring break trip with an 8-1 win over the Mountaineers before delivering their fifth 9-0 sweep of the season to cap off the day against Immaculata.
Match 1: Piedmont 8, Schreiner 1
The Mountaineers fought hard in two of the three doubles matches. Piedmont jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 2. However, Schreiner saw the match even at 1-1 after its No. 1 doubles team eked out an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. With the lead hanging in the balance at No. 3 doubles,
MARION SLOYAN and
DAKOTA WILKES emerged victorious with an 8-5 win, giving the Lions the 2-1 lead and momentum heading into singles.
Needing to win just three of the six singles lines to take the match, the Lady Lions decided to win them all. Sloyan picked up yet another clinch, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles as the rest of her teammates also produced two-set victories.
McSpadden did not drop a single game at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-0) while
IMANI VINCENT (6-4, 6-0) and Wilkes (6-1, 6-0) closed with perfect second sets to keep the singles shutout alive.
Venham rolled 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 while newcomer
BRI LAIDMANÂ won a pro-set, 8-2, to close things out.
Match 2: Piedmont 9, Immaculata 0
The Lions delivered an immaculate performance with their fifth shutout in seven matches this season to end Monday afternoon.
Playing singles before doubles, the Lady Lions took all six doubles matches as freshman
JORDAN BALLARD delivered the clinching win (6-3, 6-3) at No. 2.
The rest of the Lady Lions also pulled out victories with five of the six coming in straight sets. After delivering a singles win on Sunday,
BROOK PATTON returned to the lineup and did not drop a single game in a dominant win at No. 4.Â
DANNIE EVANS (6-0, 6-2) and
HOLLAN RABENSDORF (6-2, 6-2) delivered easy wins at No. 5 and No. 6 with Rabensdorf picking up her first dual singles win of 2023.Â

SARAH ROW moved to 3-0 in dual singles matches as a Lion, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Finally, in a hard-fought battle at No. 1 singles, sophomore
MIA VASHERÂ (7-6(4), 4-6, 10-6)Â won a first set tiebreaker and then a third-set superbreaker to keep the sweep alive for PiedmontÂ
Piedmont was nothing if not consistent in doubles action, winning all three doubles lines by an 8-3 score. McSpadden and Venham moved up to No. 1 and won while Evans and Patton moved into the lineup for a win at No. 2. Sloyan returned to the No. 3 spot but this time partnered with
KAITLYN HOUSE for a victory.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

ALYSSA MCSPADDEN delivered perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles wins on the day.
- The duo of McSpadden and
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM won at both No. 2 and No. 1 doubles on the day.

- The Lady Lions have lost just two total lines this season and have won by a 9-0 margin in 5-of-7 matches.
