Piedmont Sweeps Final Day of Grand Slam Tournament

NEED TO KNOW:
Game 1 Score: Piedmont 5, Randolph 3
Game 2 Score: Piedmont 5, Shenandoah 0
Record: Piedmont 7-3

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Piedmont University softball team swept the final day of the Grand Slam Tournament, picking up wins over Randolph College and Shenandoah University.

The Lady Lions fought hard to pick up wins against two solid opponents and close out the trip to North Carolina on a high note. Prior to today's sweep, they had split every other day evenly.

Game 1 – Piedmont 5, Randolph 3

Piedmont started off the day strong, manufacturing a run in the top half of the first. A KAITLIN ISLEY walk and a JASMINE LOWERY sacrifice allowed Isley to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from EMMA MCBRAYER.

Randolph responded in the bottom half of the first, adding one and threatening to add more before McBrayer got a ground ball double play to end the inning.

Going straight back to work, the Lady Lions offense picked up right where it left off with back to back hits and a sacrifice fly to plate three runs in the top of the second.

After settling down in the second, McBrayer would once again find herself in trouble in the third. A single, combined with a two out error put two on. A wildcats double scored two runs and pulled them within one run of tying the game.

MADISON HENRY added late insurance for Piedmont as she launched a two out solo home run to put the Lady Lions up 5-3.

McBrayer allowed just two hits in the final three innings of play as the Lady Lions shut the door on Randolph.

Game 2 – Piedmont 5, Shenandoah 0

Piedmont jumped out to an early lead against the Hornets, spotting them for two in the bottom of the first. The Lady Lions picked up three hits in the inning from KAITLIN ISLEY, EMMA MCBRAYER and MADISON HENRY.

Pitching for the Lady Lions, CARLY FORRESTER was locked in, retiring 9 of the first 10 hitters she faced and allowing no hits through the first three innings. Her first allowed hits came in the fourth inning but the Hornets were unable to turn them into runs.

The Lady Lions offense continued to create runs, scoring one in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. The offense put up five total runs as the contest concluded 5-0.

Forrester went for the complete game, allowing just four hits, 0 earned runs and striking out two without surrendering a walk.

Lowery, McBrayer and Henry all finished the contest with multi-hit games.
