Game 2 Score: Piedmont 5, Lynchburg 2

RALEIGH, N.C. - For the second straight day at the Raleigh Grand Slam Tournament, the No. 25 Piedmont softball team overcame an opening loss to rebound and take the finale of the day.
Piedmont fell in a 2-1 battle to Methodist and then rallied past Lynchburg 5-2.
Game 1 – Piedmont 1, Methodist 2
With
EMMA MCBRAYER on the mound, the Lady Lions took on a tough Methodist squad in a pitchers duel.
Piedmont got the scoring going in the third inning after a quiet first two frames. Tagging Methodist for one run, the Lady Lions left two on in the inning.
Methodist responded in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs. Putting the ball in play, the Monarchs forced the Lady Lions into some defensive miscues. Before McBrayer could put an end to the inning, the damage was done and Methodist took a 2-1 lead.
Piedmont had opportunities in the 6th and 7th to get back into the contest but were unable to complete the comeback. Despite receiving the loss, McBrayer surrendered just four hits in the contest, struck out six and allowed just one walk.
RILEY FORD had a notable day at the plate going 3-3 with an RBI.
Game 2 – Piedmont 5, Lynchburg 2
Pitcher
CARLY FORRESTER had an electric day on the mound for Piedmont, holding a talented Lynchburg squad to limited opportunities to score and frustrated the Hornets in the box.
It was a slow start for both offenses as the starting pitchers went to work but it was Piedmont to finally break through first. In the bottom of the 4th, a single from
MADISON HENRY put one on with no one out and brought
BAILEY DAVIS to the plate. Davis launched a 2-run home run to give her team a 2-0 lead.
Just one inning later, the Piedmont offense once again tagged the Hornets, this time for three runs. A pair of singles, combined with multiple defensive mistakes from Lynchburg allowed the Lady Lions to stretch the lead to 5-0.
A defensive mistake and a single allowed Lynchburg to find some life in the top of the 6th but Forrester got a big fly out to end the 6th. The Hornets were able to get on the board with two but that would be the only offense they could muster in the game.
Forrester threw the complete game, ending the game with just 5 hits allowed, 5 strikeouts and just 1 walk.
The Lions are scheduled to conclude the three-day event with two more contests on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. against Randolph and ending with a 12 p.m. game against Shenandoah.
