DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University softball team swept Agnes Scott in a home doubleheader to move to 6-0 in CCS play. Game 1 ended after five innings 8-0 while Game 2 went the distance with an 8-1 score line.
GAME 1 - Piedmont 8, Agnes Scott 0
The contest remained quiet for the first couple of innings as Piedmont starter
EMMA MCBRAYER worked out of multiple trouble spots to keep the Scotties off the board. The Lady Lions offense struggled in the first couple of frames but finally blew the contest open in the bottom of the 3rd.
LYNDZI PARTLOW led off the inning with a hit by pitch, followed by a stolen base.
HANNAH SMITH then singled with one out, advancing to second on the throw as Partlow moved up to third.
KENNEDY VOTAVA then singled in the infield, loading the bases as no one advanced on the play.
With the bases loaded,
JASMINE LOWERY crushed a ball into the right center field gap, scoring two.
KARA TAYLOR followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Votava. The damage was far from done thanks to
HANNAH MORGAN, who clobbered a double into left center, scoring Lowery.
MADISON HENRY also joined the fun with a two out single that scored Morgan, giving Piedmont a 5-0 lead.
Following five clean innings from McBrayer, the Lady Lions ended the contest via run rule in the bottom of the 5th. Lowery singled, Taylor followed by being hit by a pitch and Morgan reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. Henry launched a two run double to move the scoreline to 7-0.
McBrayer walked in her next at bat, loading the bases again. Pinch hitter
MICAELA QUESADA singled, scoring pinch runner
LOGAN HAWKINS and ended the contest.
GAME 2 - Piedmont 8, Agnes Scott 1
The Lady Lions offense wasted no time getting on the board, scoring runs in the 1st and 2nd innings.
KENNEDY VOTAVA manufactured the first run of the game. Following a walk, she proceeded to steal second and third allowing
KARA TAYLOR to record the RBI groundout to short.
Agnes Scott responded in the top of the 2nd with a run of their own. Despite having just one hit in the inning, the Scotties were able to manufacture a lone run.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Piedmont strung together a pair of two out hits from
HANNAH SMITH and Votava which were followed by an RBI single from
JASMINE LOWERY.
Piedmont blew the game open in the bottom of the 4th, scoring six runs in the inning. Seven hits in the inning from
KELSYN LUNDELL,
MACIE ALLEN,
MADISON HENRY,
HANNAH MORGAN,
LYNDZI PARTLOW, Smith and Lowery allowed the squad to take an 8-1 lead.
RILEY FORD was electric for Piedmont, shutting down Agnes Scott all game. She allowed just two hits in the game, striking out nine and going the distance for the complete game win.
