Lady Lions Sweep Doubleheader Against Wesleyan

NEED TO KNOW:
Game 1 Score: Piedmont 2, Wesleyan 0
Game 2 Score: Piedmont 4, Wesleyan 3
Records: Piedmont, 15-6; Wesleyan, 2-14

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University softball team swept the CCS doubleheader at home against Wesleyan in two competitive contests. Piedmont was led by a one hit performance from starting pitcher EMMA MCBRAYER in Game 1 and rallied in extra innings in Game 2 for the win.

Game 1 - Piedmont 2, Wesleyan 0

In a true pitchers dual, Piedmont narrowly defeated Wesleyan behind a near perfect performance from starting pitcher EMMA MCBRAYER. Locked at 0-0, Piedmont and Wesleyan went to the 5th inning with just one hit between the two squads. McBrayer carried a no-hitter into the set before allowing the only hit of the contest for the Wolves in the inning.

Piedmont's offense came to life in the bottom half, rallying for three hits and two runs. A one out double from LYNDZI PARTLOW got the inning started. Partlow stole third shortly after and scored on the same play following a throwing error on the stolen base. With two down, KENNEDY VOTAVA singled, stole second and then scored on a JASMINE LOWERY triple to left.

With McBrayer locked in, Wesleyan failed to find any kind of answer and the contest finished 2-0.

Game 2 - Piedmont 4, Wesleyan 3 (F/8)

An extra inning thriller saw the Lady Lions take down the Wolves for the sweep on the day. The early innings mirrored that of Game 1, with starter CARLY FORRESTER allowing just one hit through the 4th inning while Piedmont had just two hits headed into the bottom of the 4th. On the heels of a MADISON HENRY doubled, pinch runner Hannah Calloway stole third and was singled home by KENNEDY VOTAVA.

Wesleyan responded in the top of the 5th, scoring two in the inning on three hits.

The back and forth action continued in the home half of the 5th as Piedmont answered the call with a pair of its own. Pinch hitting, EMMA MCBRAYER doubled to right field to lead off the inning. MACIE ALLEN reentered into the game, advancing to third on a pass ball and subsequently scored on a HANNAH SMITH single. Smith stole second and advanced to third on a fly out before scoring on an RBI single from KAITLIN ISLEY.

Heading into the top of the 7th, Wesleyan refused to go down and rallied to tie the contest. A leadoff single forced a pitching change out of Piedmont, bringing on MEGAN STEINMEYER. However, a walk and an error tied the contest, putting runners on second and third with no one gone. This forced Piedmont to turn to the bullpen once again, bringing on RILEY FORD. Ford, with a brilliant performance, escaped the inning without conceding a run and took a 3-3 game to the bottom of the 7th.

In extras, Ford worked a flawless top of the 8th and turned it over to the heart of the Piedmont offense in the bottom half.

A one out double from KARA TAYLOR set the stage for a walk off win. HANNAH MORGAN wasted no time, crushing the ball into left field and scoring pinch runner ANNALEE KEYS for the winning run.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- EMMA MCBRAYER threw a one hit, complete game shutout in Game 1.
