DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University softball team swept their Senior Day doubleheader and CCS conference play opener against the Moutaineers of Berea.
Game 1 - Piedmont 12, Berea 0 (F/5)
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning.Â
JASMINE LOWERY led off with a single, stole second base and then was moved to third on a
KAITLIN ISLEY single. Isley stole second shortly after during
HANNAH MORGAN's at bat. Morgan and
MADISON HENRY would both ground out, resulting in RBIs for both at-bats.Â
The following inning, Piedmont broke the game wide open. They were able to hang seven runs in the inning on the backs of three big hits from
LYNDZI PARTLOW, Jasimine Lowry and
HANNAH MORGAN.Â
For Piedmont,
EMMA MCBRAYER carried the Lady Lions through four nearly flawless frames, allowing no hits and only one runner to reach due to a fielding error. She exited the contest with a 12-0 lead, giving way to
MEGAN STEINMEYER, making her return to the circle. Steinmeyer worked a quick inning, showing off a lively fastball and allowing just one hit on an infield pop up that got lost in the sun.
The contested ended in a run rule after the top of the fifth, 12-0.
Game 1 - Piedmont 21, Berea 0 (F/5)
Piedmont once again jumped out to a massive lead in the first couple innings. Chasing the starter from the game early, the team quickly took a 6-0 leading after one.Â
The contest got out of hand after a 10 run second inning, where Piedmont saw the Moutaineers make 4 pitching changes in the inning.Â
The score differential continued to grow as the Lady Lions sprayed the ball all over the yard, plating run number 21 in the bottom of the fourth.
Pitcher
LOGAN HAWKINSÂ ended the contest in a run rule after setting Berea down in order in the top half of the fifth i
nning.Â
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- EMMA MCBRAYER threw 4 scoreless innings, allowing no hits.
- HANNAH MORGAN went 1/3 with 3 RBI's in Game 1.
- Jasmine Lowry & KENNEDY VOTAVA both had 2 hits in Game 1.
- Lowry also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in Game 2.
- MADISON HENRY went 1/1 with 3 RBIs in Game 2.
- KASEY WHITE went 2/2 from the dish.
