DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University softball team dropped the lone contest on Saturday to Emory 10-6.
After returning home for the first time in nearly a month, the Lady Lions were unable to celebrate a win in Demorest despite leading midway through the contest.
It was a less than ideal start to the game for starting pitcher
EMMA MCBRAYER as the Eagles were able to strike early. A leadoff single, combined with a wild pitch and an error allowed Emory to score the first run of the game.
The Lady Lions responded in the bottom of the third, taking a big lead. A leadoff walk from
MACIE ALLEN forced a pitching change out of Emory. A sacrifice bunt combined with a
KAITLIN ISLEY RBI single scored the first run of the inning. Piedmont followed by scoring the second run on a fielding mistake from Emory before back to back singles from
HANNAH MORGAN and
MADISON HENRY broke the inning open.Â
Taking the 4-1 lead into the next few frames, disaster struck in the top of the 5th. Nine runs on seven hits and three errors put the Lady Lions behind 10-5 with just nine outs to work with.
Piedmont clawed back to cut the lead to 10-6 but timely pitching and defense from Emory held the score line there for the remainder of the game.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-
MADISON HENRY went 3-4 from the plate with 2 RBIs.
-
MACIE ALLEN went 1-2 from the dish with 2 walks and a RBI.
