CONWAY, S.C. - The Piedmont University track and field program opened the 2023 outdoor season in Conway, S.C. at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge this past weekend. Senior
JAYCIE PONCE wasted no time breaking another school record while the program also saw multiple top 10 finishes, a wealth of personal bests and a win in the men's 4x800 relay.
After multiple record breaking performances in the indoor season, Ponce got straight back to work putting her name in the Piedmont record books once again. Running a 4:48.07, Ponce shattered the women's 1500m record previously held by
VAL ANGEL by nearly 10 seconds and finished fourth in the event. She continued her brilliant weekend with a second place finish in the 5000m (18:42.80) and participated in the 4x800 relay where the team placed second. Joined by
BELLA CACCAMO,
ANNA GIBSON and
LEEANN LAWRENCE, the four ladies ran a 13:28.58 and crossed in second place.
On an individual level, Lawrence finished in third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:38.42.
