ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team steamrolled Warren Wilson Wednesday afternoon, winning the contest 17-4.
The Lady Lions dominated the game from the start, scoring six unanswered in the first. There were four different goal scorers involved in the first period.
The lead stretched to 7-0 before Warren Wilson finally found a response but Piedmont closed the first half of action on a 4-0 run thanks to a pair of goals from
CARSON BEZOLD and individual goals from
AVA TRANKINA and
CLARA WELCH.
Out of half, Warren Wilson looked to claw their way back into the contest but a short rally was quickly cut off by Piedmont. Following an Owls goal, the Lady Lions once again went on an offensive run with goals from
MERRYN BUMPASS,
MAGGI SPRATLIN,
LINDLEY WARD and
CLARA WELCH.Â
Leading 16-3 heading into the fourth, each team scored once more before the contest went final, 17-4.Â
TURNING POINT:
-- Piedmont added four unanswered goals heading into halftime to make the lead 11-1.

CLARA WELCH once again led the Lady Lions in scoring with four goals.

MERRYN BUMPASS and
LINDLEY WARD both had hat tricks on the day.
