LaGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont women's basketball team came up short Tuesday evening in a 73-61 loss at LaGrange. The Lady Lions fell behind early and were unable to keep pace with the Panthers. 

It was a low-scoring game with just four points scored on either side in the opening four minutes of play. In the final 3:06 of the first quarter, LaGrange used a 10-4 run to claim an 18-12 lead at the quarter break. 

By halftime, the Panthers were able to extend that lead to 36-26 as Piedmont was outscored 18-14 in the second period. 

In the third quarter, Piedmont got the better of the Panthers, but the comeback was not able to be completed. The Lady Lions trailed by as many as 18 in the opening minutes of the third quarter but used a 13-1 run to cut it back to single digits. 

The Lady Lions got as close as trailing by four in the final minutes of the third period, but that was the closest they would come in the second half. 

Up next, the Lions will return home on Friday evening facing covenant in the first of two CCS doubleheaders this weekend inside Cave Arena. Friday's game tips at 5 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--LaGrange's Zyhia Johnson had 19 points to lead LaGrange but added 10 of those in the first quarter to help the Panthers claim an early lead. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Piedmont's NAKIYAH WASHINGTON also added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
