Men's Basketball's Run Ends in Semifinals with 87-65 Loss at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont University men's basketball team's tournament run ended Friday in the semifinals with a loss to Maryville 87-65. The Lions were led by the five starters who accounted for all but six points in the contest. 

The Lions were first on the board and led at the first media timeout, but the Scots claimed the lead with 11:50 to play in the first half and never surrendered it again. Piedmont came back to tie the contest through the final minutes of the first half as NOAH REARDON banked a three to knot the score at 29, but Maryville led 41-34 at the break. 

In the second half, the Scots hit back-to-back 3-pointers to break open a 13 point advantage and led by as many as 23 in the second half. Piedmont got as close as seven points, 53-46, with 14:26 to play, but could not overcome the deficit. 

Piedmont finishes the season with a 13-14 record with eight seniors ending their careers in the Green and Gold. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Scots outscored Piedmont by 15 in the second half to take control of the contest. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Piedmont's five starters scored all but six points in the contest. 
--ANDREW STIMPSON led Piedmont with 15 points to end his career. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
--The win for Maryville marked the third of the season over the Lions.
