Men's Basketball Honors Eight on Senior Day, Drops 68-61 Game to Maryville

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's basketball team came up short in a second half rally against Maryville dropping the regular season finale 68-61. The Lions honored eight seniors prior to the contest as part of senior day for both basketball programs. 

Maryville took the lead out of the gate but Piedmont kept the deficit to single digits through the first 10 minutes of play. In the final seconds of the first half, the Scots built their largest lead of the half going into the break up 15, 36-21. 

The Scots were able to execute the quick inbounds and shoot as time expired in the first half with 0.6 seconds on the clock, time for one final shot. 

Piedmont trailed by as many as 18 in the second half but began to claw back getting it to 46-36 with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Scots charged ahead again but Piedmont was able to get it to single digits as RYAN JOLLY converted a pair of free throws with 4:40 on the clock to make it 57-48. 

The Lions' comeback came up short though Piedmont pulled within four after a WILL RICHTER 3-pointer inside the final minute. 

ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS, RYAN JOLLY, WILL RICHTER, AARON PALMER, HUNTER NORMAN, ANDREW STIMPSON, DALTON MEELER and LOGAN CRANFORD were recognized pregame for their careers in the Green and Gold. 

Postseason play in the CCS will be announced soon as the regular season concludes this weekend. 

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont made just two 3-pointers in the game while the Scots were able to convert nine. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--RYAN JOLLY capped off his career inside Cave Arena with a 20 point performance to lead the Lions.
