MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont women's basketball team began its 2023 portion of the schedule with a 68-59 conference road win at Huntingdon on Friday evening in Montgomery, Alabama.

The game saw multiple wild swings of momentum with each quarter seeing one team outscore the other by at least seven points. However, it was the Lady Lions who capitalized the most on their runs, outscoring the Hawks by a combined 29 points in the first and third quarters and holding on from there.

NAKIYAH WASHINGTON continued her outstanding senior campaign, pouring in a game-high 24 points to go with 13 rebounds and three steals. It marked Washington's 5th 20-point game of the season and second consecutive game with 24 points.

Although Washington was the lone starter in double figures, senior COLBY REED pitched in some scoring punch off the bench, with 14 points and three made three-pointers.

The Lady Lions raced out of the gate, scoring the first 10 points of the contest punctuated by a pair of ASHLEY SCOTT three-pointers.

While Piedmont led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter, Huntingdon clawed back into the contest with a 23-10 advantage in the second quarter to lead Piedmont 29-27 at the break.

However, the Lady Lions emerged from the locker room on fire, scoring the first 12 points of the third quarter to retake control of the game. Piedmont led by as many as 20 points late in the quarter and were able to hold off the Huntingdon rally in the fourth to win by nine and improve to 2-0 in the CCS with both wins coming on the road.

Up next, the Lady Lions will take on Agnes Scott on the road tomorrow afternoon.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont scored the first 10 points of the game and the first 12 points of the second half, proving too much for the Hawks to overcome.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Washington scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The senior forward has scored in double figures in all 10 games she has played this season with five games of 20 or more points.
- Reed's 14 points marked the third double figure scoring game off the bench for the senior.
