Lions Cruise at Covenant 80-54

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Piedmont men's basketball team left no doubt Saturday at Covenant in an 80-54 win over the Scots in conference play. The win moved Piedmont to 4-4 in the league as the Lions led from the first basket of the game. 

It was a slow start for both sides as it was just 18-10 with less than 10 to play in the first half, but Piedmont went on a 17-3 run midway through and led 29-13 with 4:50 till the break. The Scots were held scoreless from the floor for over seven minutes as the Piedmont defense kept them at bay.

Piedmont took its largest lead of the first half into the break up 36-19 and led by as many as 20 in the opening minutes of the second half. The Lions outscored the Scots 44-35 in the second half and it was 3-pointers that kept the Scots in the contest at all. 

Covenant made nine 3-pointers and just 16 shots from the floor in total. The Scots scored 13 from the free throw line to Piedmont's 14 at the charity stripe.

JOE HELENBROOK led Piedmont with 15 points off the bench while four total Lions scored in double figures. DEVIN DEAN added 14 points, WILL RICHTER contributed 12 and RYAN JOLLY scored 10. 

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont never trailed in the contest and left no doubt with a convincing first half leading 36-19 at the break. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--JOE HELENBROOK led all scorers with 15 points off the bench and six rebounds in 20 minutes of action. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--RYAN JOLLY tallied 10 points to score in double digits for the ninth time in the last 10 contests.
