DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's basketball team dropped its second straight contest as LaGrange was victorious 76-63 on Wednesday night at Cave Arena.

The Lady Lions led by a point heading to the final quarter, but the Panthers dominated the final 10 minutes, winning the final period by a 24-10 margin to run away with the victory.

ASHLEY SCOTT and NAKIYAH WASHINGTON led the way for the Lions, with each scoring 17 points. For Scott, it marks the third straight strong scoring performance as she tallied 18 points against Belhaven Friday and 23 points against Huntingdon Saturday. Washington was dominant in the second half, scoring 13 of her 17 in the second half.

Zyhia Johnson was the standout performer for the Panthers, leading all scorers with 24 points while Laila Battle poured in 22 points off the bench, making 11-of-14 free throws.

LaGrange jumped out to an early lead and did not trail for the entirety of the first quarter, taking a 17-14 lead to the second quarter. The Panthers led by five before a DESTINY DEETZ buzzer-beating jumper cut the Piedmont deficit to three.

The Lady Lions took their first lead of the game on a jump shot by KYRIAKI TAYLOR with five minutes left in the quarter. However, the Panthers rallied back with a 9-4 run to take a five-point lead into the locker room.

The third quarter saw a furious Piedmont rally to retake the lead by a point going into the final 10 minutes of play.

Unfortunately, from there, it was all LaGrange, as it took the lead at 60-59 with 5:01 left in the game and never looked back, outscoring the Lions 16-4 the rest of the way.

Up next, Piedmont will take to the road and battle Covenant this Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
