DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's basketball team fell in overtime, 98-91, against Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon at Cave Arena.
The game was back-and-forth most of the way, but the Hawks' AB Davis was the star performer, scoring a game-high 29 points.
The Lady Lions led by as many as eight points midway through the fourth quarter. However, Huntingdon refused to let the game get away, rallying back to tie the game as Piedmont needed a pair of clutch free throws by
LAKEN STILES to send the game to overtime.
For the second consecutive contest,
ASHLEY SCOTT delivered a strong performance for Piedmont, leading the team with 23 points on 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.
NAKIYAH WASHINGTON pitched in with 18 points to go with nne rebounds and Stiles tied her season and career high with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
The first quarter was marked by fantastic offense from both sides, with neither team able to contain the other. Huntingdon totaled 29 first quarter points and led by five going to the second.
After its hot shooting start, Huntingdon cooled off in the second quarter as the Lions' defensive intensity picked up. The Hawk were only able to convert 5-of-17 from the floor as Piedmont shot 50 percent and took a one-point edge to the locker room.
However, after Piedmont roared out to a 55-48 edge with 4:48 left in the third quarter, the Hawks called timeout and were able to immediately answer with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the score.
The final quarter mirrored the third as the Lions jumped out to a near insurmountable advantage, but the Hawks clawed back and dominated the overtime period to run away with the victory.
Up next, the Lady Lions will continue their home stand, hosting LaGrange next Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
