BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The men and women of the Piedmont track and field team opened their 2023 indoor season at the Emory CrossPlex Showdown in Birmingham, Ala. this past Sunday.

Highlighted by a record breaking performance by CHRIS DONSEREAUX, the Lions saw double digit PRs during the meet as well as multiple avenues of success on the day.

Donsereasux's historic performance came in the prelims of the men's 60m dash, where he set a new school record with a 7.04. His day was far from over as he would also PR in the men's 200m dash (22.62) to finish 9th overall.

The Lions' success continued as the combined efforts of CONNOR CREEDON, JACOB BALOT, GARY HALVERSON and DARIUS SMITH ran a 10:56.12 in the men's distance medley relay to secure a first place finish. Halverson also found success in the men's 3000m as he turned in a PR time of 9:05, crossing in 10th. Creedon and Balot both PR'ed in the men's mile, with Creedon finishing with a time of 4:26.58 (9th) and Balot right on his heels with a 4:27.59 (10th). They were not alone in the men's mile as TUCKER COX also finished in personal recorde time. As for Smith, he finished in 3rd during the men's 800m dash (1:58.36).

The day of PRs continued as PETER SLIGH also turned in personal record performance during the men's 3000m while LEEANN LAWRENCE and JAYCIE PONCE turned in PRs turned during the women's 3000m. Ponce's PR of 10:52.37 earned her 7th in the event.

Piedmont saw two PRs in the women's 400m dash, one from MADALYN WILLIAMS and one from KAI DOYLE. Doyle's time of 1:02.00 earned her 8th place overall in the event. 

In the men's 60m hurdles, GARRETT STADLER recorded a new PR of 8.85 to finish 4th in the event. 

The team of Ponce, Seeber, Gibson and Lawrence found success in the women's distances medley relay, with the four turning in a time of 13:50.62, good enough for a 3rd place finish. 

Piedmont will look to build on all of the momentum created on opening weekend moving forward. Up next, the Lions jump right back into action as they travel to Salem, Va. for the Finn Pincus Invitational on Saturday, Jan 21.
