DECATUR, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team earned its second consecutive win overall and first win in the Collegiate Conference of the South with a 6-0 shutout at Agnes Scott on Wednesday afternoon in Decatur.
The Lady Lions controlled possession throughout and dominated the shot count, scoring four times in the first half and twice more in the second half to roll past the Scotties.
Newcomers stood out on Wednesday with four of Piedmont's six goals coming from freshmen.
SIERRA JUDSON,
PEYTON GATES,
CHRISTINA SIERRA and
CHLOE SPRADLIN all notched their first career goals in the victory while senior stalwarts
KAYLEE KING and
KAITY HEMPERLY found the back of the net as well.Â
It did not take the Lady Lions long to strike. In just the 12th minute, a short Agnes Scott goal kick was played back in and found the foot of Judson with one player to beat. It was no problem for Judson, who shoved aside a Scotties defender and finished past the keeper for the only goal Piedmont needed.
Just over 12 minutes later, it was Gates' turn to get in on the action. After completing a throw in, fellow newcomer
CHRISTINA SIERRA played a short pass to Gates, who found the top right corner of the net from an impossible angle to make it 2-0 Lady Lions.
The scoring barrage continued with two more quick goals as King found her way past the back line and put away an easy goal with the Agnes Scott goalkeeper displaced. Then, after narrowly missing out on a goal just earlier, Sierra this time finished to the top left with a beautiful strike off a feed from King.
Piedmont held a 19-2 shot advantage and led 4-0 going to the halftime break.
However, the Lady Lions were not done scoring, as Hemperly made it 5-0 in the 60th minute while Spradlin closed the book in the 70th minute with her first career goal. Both of Piedmont's second half goals were assisted by junior forward
GABBIE HAYES.
Standing at 1-1-1 in CCS play, the Lady Lions are back in action next Tuesday, Oct. 4 with a game at Wesleyan.
