SWANNONOA, N.C. - The Piedmont women's soccer team bounced back with a 2-1 road win over Warren Wilson on Sunday afternoon in Swannonoa, North Carolina.
Senior forward
KAYLEE KING was the star for Piedmont, scoring both of the team's goals in the victory.
Â
Piedmont dominated the shot count, 35-4, including a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. However, the Owls made things interesting in the late going thanks to a goal in the 56th minute as the Lady Lions were unable to pull away.
The Lady Lions controlled possession throughout the contest, but had an even more decided advantage in the first half, totaling 19 shots compared to 0 for Warren Wilson.
After a number of good looks did not go Piedmont's way, the Lady Lions finally found the back of the net in the 36th minute.
ABBY RYAN's long, diagonal through ball found the foot of freshman
JOCELYN MASEDA, who fed a beautiful pass to King, who finished to the far post past the Owls keeper.
Piedmont took the 1-0 lead to the break and quickly added on in the second half. While a pair of would-be Lady Lions add-on goals were taken off the board due to offsides calls, King finally did put the second goal on the board after receiving a long pass up the left sideline from freshman
CHRISTINA SIERRA. King was able to separate from the Warren Wilson back line and beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation to make it 2-0 Piedmont.
Although it looked like Piedmont was about to run away, the Owls showed fight down the stretch. After earning a free kick from around 40 yards, Warren Wilson found the back of the net on a top right corner blast to put some game pressure on the Lady Lions.
However, goalkeeper
HAYLEE DORNAN made a pair of late saves, including a leaping stop on a free kick, to keep Piedmont in front.
Up next, Piedmont will step back into conference action, looking for their first ever Collegiate Conference of the South win, taking on Agnes Scott on the road this Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
