DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team fell 1-0 in its Collegiate Conference of the South home opener on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Demorest.
The Blazers controlled possession in the first half and then converted a goal early in the second, which was all they needed in the shutout victory.
The Lady Lions were able to deliver six shots in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
The first half was a defensive battle, where Piedmont delivered the first shot of the game but saw Belhaven control possession for much of the rest of the first half and the Blazers held a 13-3 shot advantage for the half.
Goalkeeper
HAYLEE DORNAN made three saves in the first half to keep the Blazers off the board.
After Dornan made an outstanding diving save early in the second half to keep the contest scoreless, Belhaven finally was able to strike, as Lauren Snell muscled one past Dornan off a corner kick.
From there, Piedmont began to regain control of possession, but Belhaven goalkeeper Julianne Wilson made three second half saves including a leaping grab to keep
KAYLEE KING's top left corner shot out of the back of the net.
King led the Lady Lions with three shot attempts for the contest.
Up next, the Lady Lions will step out of conference tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a road trip to play Warren Wilson.
