Lady Lions Bounce Back with 3-0 Home Shutout over BSC

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 3, Birmingham-Southern 0
Records: Piedmont, 2-3; Birmingham-Southern, 1-3-1

DEMOREST, Ga. - On a warm fall afternoon in Demorest, the Piedmont women's soccer team saw its offense catch fire in a 3-0 shutout victory over Birmingham-Southern.

The Lady Lions scored in the early going and never looked back, adding two more goals in the second half.

All three goals were scored by seniors as JADE EDWARDS found the back of the net in just the fourth minute and ARIA SOLANO and ANYA OLSON tacked on goals in the second half to extend the Piedmont lead.

For Solano, it marked her first career goal.

It did not take the Lady Lions long to strike. Olson had a good look blocked but Edwards was in the right place to collect the rebound and delivered a blast from in close that went through the BSC keeper's finger tips and into the back of the net.

The Panthers were able to have a few looks late in the first half, but Piedmont still held the shot advantage, 11-6, over the first 45 minutes.

Coming out of the break, Solano started the second half after not appearing in the first half and immediately made her presence felt, finishing low right after receiving a beautiful pass from freshman SAVANNAH JEROME. The senior from Ovideo, Florida extended the lead to 2-0 and put the momentum squarely back on the Piedmont side.

Just over 15 minutes later, it was Olson's turn to get in on the action as a top left shot from the senior midfielder put the game away.

Up next, the Lady Lions will begin Collegiate Conference of the South play, heading to Covenant next Wednesday, Sept. 21 for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

TURNING POINT:
- Leading 1-0, ARIA SOLANO's breakaway goal gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 cushion and they cruised the rest of the way.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Olson notched a three-point day, assisting on Edwards' game-winning goal in the fourth minute and scoring one of her own midway through the second half.
- Goalkeeper HAYLEE DORNAN played all 90 minutes and made a pair of saves in the shutout.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- Piedmont moves to 7-2-1 all time against the Panthers and today's win marks the first for the Lady Lions since 2019 over BSC.
