DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on an early lead, falling 2-1 on Sunday morning against East Texas Baptist.
On a mostly cloudy day at the Walker Athletic Complex, the Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead after a first half penalty kick goal by
ABBY JUDGE. However, the Tigers answered with two quick goals early in the second half and made the 2-1 advantage stand the rest of the way.
ETBUÂ led in the shot count 18-11 while Piedmont goalkeeper
HAYLEE DORNAN made eight saves.
The game was a defensive battle in the early going, until
KAYLEE KING slipped behind the ETBU defense and drew a foul just inside the 18-yard box, earning a penalty kick opportunity for fellow senior Judge.
Judge stepped up and calmly beat the keeper to the bottom right to give Piedmont the advantage in the 18th minute.
Despite the Tigers mostly controlling possession in the first half, the Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead to the break.
Unfortunately, the advantage did not last long, with the Tigers finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the second half as Sarah Ramos knotted things up at 1-1.
Then, just over 11 minutes later, a cross into the box led to the eventual game-winning goal as a deft touch from Aylisse Warren found the foot of Aaliyah Casas, who finished to the top right.
From there, ETBUÂ was able to hold off the Lady Lions from equalizing to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Up next, the Lady Lions will be back in action this Friday, Sept. 16 hosting Birmingham-Southern at the Walker Athletic Complex.
