TACOMA, Wash. - Opening the season on the west coast, Piedmont's women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season to Pacific Lutheran University.
The Lady Lions spent the majority of the first half on the defensive end. There were some close calls including a free kick just outside the box awarded to the Lutes on a foul by Sophomore Goalkeeper HAYLEE DORNAN. Despite being outshot 12-1 in the half, the score line remained tied 0-0 heading into halftime. Dornan was called upon to make 6 saves in the first half.
The score line would not hold for long as Ellie Reardon buried a penalty kick for the Lutes in the 49th minute of action, making the score 1-0. The Lady Lions net continued to be under fire for the remainder of the contest and saw 25 shots total from Pacific Lutheran.
After a shot from Senior Forward KAYLEE KING in the 64th minute, Pacific Lutheran launched a counterattack from their own back line, which resulted in goal number two for the Lutes. A beautiful through pass from Lily Dose led Kayden Hulquist into the box where she tucked away her first of the contest, moving the score line to 2-0.
In the 72nd minute, a flurry of shots came through for the Lutes with the third finding the back of the net by way of Julia Causbie. The scoring came to an end after this and remained 3-0 until the final whistle.
Up next, the Lady Lions will play another contest out west versus the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. The match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.
