DEMOREST, Ga. - It was a cold and windy Saturday for the Piedmont women's tennis team, yet the Lady Lions continued to blow past Covenant throughout the afternoon.
The Lady Lions obtained all three doubles lines and quickly captured the Scots in singles, winning all six matches to close out the match. With the USA South West Division Regular Season Champion seat on the line, the Lions did not hold back. This is the second match in a row the Lions have dominated in all six singles matches.
Piedmont began the afternoon with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles from
MELISSA GISH and
IMANI VINCENT. Moments later,
MAGGIE MOODY and
DAKOTA WILKES rolled in an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. To top it all off,
RACHEL MARSH and
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM stacked on another victory at No. 1 doubles 8-4 to put the Lady Lions up 3-0 leading into singles play.
Despite the cold and snow, Piedmont remained unstoppable. Winning at No. 2 singles (6-0) (6-0), Venham advanced the Lions score yet again 4-0. Needing only one more win to secure the day, Gish clinched the victory for the Lions at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-3).
After clinching the match, No. 1 singles Vincent (6-3, 6-0) and No. 6 singles
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN (6-0, 6-0) closed out their matches with the same winning mentality. The two took care of business to further progress the score to 7-0.
After
DAKOTA WILKES won in straight sets at No. 5, the dominance continued as
MARION SLOYAN (6-4, 6-3) stepped onto the courts and polished off the afternoon for the Lady Lions.
This marks the program's new single season record for wins in a season since 2019. The Lions now take the title as the USA South West Division Regular Season Champions.
This also marks the program's 28th consecutive USA South win and head coach Trey Martin is 21-0 in conference matches in his fourth season.
Up next, the Lady Lions will take on LaGrange this Wednesday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. at home.
