DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team secured its perfect USA South season with a 9-0 home sweep of LaGrange on Wednesday afternoon at the Burgen Tennis Courts.

Prior to the contest, senior ALLISON DEMPSEY was honored for her contributions to the program.
 


The Lady Lions rolled through the USA South regular season at 7-0 and only lost one line in conference all season. This marks the fourth consecutive season in which they have run through the league unbeaten.

Piedmont was especially dominant on Wednesday, losing only two total games across singles and doubles.

The Lady Lions began the afternoon with an easy doubles sweep, losing just one game across the three lines. MELISSA GISH and MAGGIE MOODY won 8-0 at No. 3 while IMANI VINCENT and ALYSSA MCSPADDEN did the same at No. 2.

Moments later, Dempsey teamed up with ABBEY GRACE VENHAM at No. 1 doubles, delivering an 8-1 win.

Needing just two singles wins to clinch the match, it did not take the Lady Lions long to do just that. McSpadden, DAKOTA WILKES and Moody each dispatched their opponents 6-0, 6-0 with Moody earning the clinch and breaking the program record for career singles wins in the process.

After 1, 2 and 3 singles won quickly, 4, 5 and 6 singles brought the same dominant play to the courts, losing just one total game. On her senior day, Dempsey won her second straight match by an 0 and 0 margin while RACHEL MARSH also did not drop a game. Finally, TYLER PERRY prevailed, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 to close out the sweep.

Up next, the Lady Lions will take on nationally-ranked Sewanee in a neutral site match on Sunday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. The match will be played at Oglethorpe University.

- Moody's 6-0, 6-0 win was her 52nd singles win as a Lady Lion, setting a new program record.
