MARYVILLE, Tenn. - In an impressive offensive showcase, the Piedmont University baseball team scored early and often in a 16-7 win over Maryville Saturday. The Lions scored 16 runs on 16 hits combined with six walks.

The Piedmont pitching staff was impressive as well as BODIE EILERTSON earned his first collegiate victory going 5.2 innings striking out eight batters. Eilertson did not issue a walk and the Piedmont staff as a whole did not surrender a walk until the ninth.

The Lions were the first ones on the board with a run in the top of the first after a hit and a pair of walks. Marvyille answered back in the home half to knot the score at one.

In the third inning, Piedmont's bats caught fire exploding for six runs on four hits, two walks and two errors. Once again, the Scots had an answer in the third inning with three runs on three hits to make it 7-4 Lions.

ALEX GONZALEZ hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning to add to the Lions' lead. With two outs in the fifth, CARTER BALLSTADT singled to drive in SCOTT LYON and Gonzalez hit a 2-RBI double making it 10-4.

The Lions added two more in the sixth and four more in the ninth inning. The Scots were able to tack on single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.

Piedmont totaled 16 hits while holding the Scots to 11. The Lions had just two extra base hits as Gonzalez had a double and a home run.

Up next, the final regular season contest of the year is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Maryville.

TURNING POINT:
