DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont University's women's lacrosse team battled early versus the Meredith Avenging Angels on Saturday afternoon, but couldn't keep the pace as the visitors ran away with a 23-8 win at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lions trailed 4-0 early on as the Avenging Angels jumped out to a hot start, but a shifty hesitation move from freshman
MAGGI SPRATLIN opened the scoring for Piedmont with just under nine minutes to play in the first half.
Spratlin's goal loosened things up for the Piedmont offense. Shortly after Spratlin's first goal, the Lady Lions would go on a 3-0 scoring run to cut the deficit down to just one goal at 5-4.
Goals during that span came courtesy of
MERRYN BUMPASS, Spratlin, and
JAIDEN RAMATOWSKI.
That jolt of momentum put the pressure on the Avenging Angels, but they stayed poised and retook control of the game with a 10-1 scoring run to head into the halftime break with a 15-5 lead.
The Meredith scoring run ultimately grew to 12-1 before Bumpass ended the Piedmont scoring drought in the middle of the third quarter with her third goal of the contest.
With a running clock in effect, Piedmont never got momentum shifted back to its side as Meredith went on to finish the job and earn a 23-8 win. The loss for Piedmont snapped a four-game conference winning streak and ended a three-game home winning streak.
