GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team took to the road and delivered a 15-7 victory over Greensboro Friday afternoon.
The Lions took control in the second half, outscoring the Pride 9-2 in the final 30 minutes of action.
CONNOR ROGERS scored a career-high five goals to lead Piedmont. Sophomore
BRADY MCGUIRE totaled five points, delivering three goals to go with a pair of assists.Â
As a team, the Lions forced 27 Greensboro turnovers and won 14-of-24 faceoffs.
Rogers opened the scoring in the game's early minutes before the Pride answered back quickly to take a 2-1 lead in the first quarter. However, the Lions responded with a 3-0 run of their own and took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
From that point forward, Piedmont did not trail, as Greensboro was only able to tie the score at 4-4 early in the second before goals by McGuire and Rogers gave the Lions a 6-5 edge going to the break.
The second half was all Lions, as they scored the first six goals coming out of halftime to remove all doubt from the outcome.
The defense was stifling from Piedmont, holding Greensboro to just two second half goals, both coming in the fourth quarter.
With the Lions leading 14-7 in the final minute, Rogers ended the day with his fifth and final tally, off McGuire's second assist to put the exclamation point on the afternoon.
Up next, the Lions will return home and host LaGrange this Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Although the game was closely contested and back-and-forth in the first half, Piedmont dominated the second half to win going away.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Rogers' five goals marked a career high for the third year Lion.
- McGuire pitched in with three goals and two assists, his third game this season with multiple goals and multiple assists.
