DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 6-3 win over Pfeiffer at the Burgen Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.

Once again, the bottom of the singles lineup came through for the Lions, who were leading 4-3 late in the action with two matches remaining on court.

PATRICK DEMPSEY delivered the decisive blow, remaining undefeated in singles play on the season with a 6-3, 6-3 clinching victory at No. 6. Then, to put the icing on the cake, HOUSTON MEDLOCK capped the festivities with a 6-2, 6-2 win not even a minute later at No. 5.

The Lions and Falcons battled through doubles, with Piedmont coming out on top at No. 2 and No. 3.

The No. 3 team of CHRIS BALE and Dempsey put the first point of the match on the board with an 8-3 win at No. 3 before ROMAN WEBB and MIKE PORCELLI prevailed, 8-2, at No. 2.

However, the Falcons retook some momentum, earning an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to make it 2-1 Lions heading to singles.

Leading 2-1, Piedmont's No. 1 through No. 3 singles players were on court first, as the Falcons tied the match 2-2 with a win at No. 1. Pfeiffer then made it three in a row, emerging victorious in a marathon three-setter, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Needing momentum, Piedmont's BRYCE VANORDER delivered, winning a marathon of his own, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 to even the score at 3-3.

With No. 4 through No. 6 singles coming on court, the Lions did not drop a set from there, as Bale put the Lions ahead with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 before Dempsey clinched the win at 6 and Medlock delivered a decisive victory at 5 to close it out.

Up next, the Lions will host Belhaven and Oglethorpe for a doubleheader next Saturday, March 12 starting at 10 a.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Trailing 3-2, BRYCE VANORDER battled back after dropping the first, 7-5, to win a long second-set, 7-5, and roll to a 6-3 win in the third to tie the score back up at 3-3.
