SEWANEE AND MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 9-0 sweep at Maryville as part of a split squad doubleheader in Tennessee Saturday.

The Lady Lions dominated the Scots and fell 9-0 to the No. 7 ranked Sewanee Tigers.

Match 1 : Piedmont 9, Maryville 0

Piedmont continued its dominance of the USA South, winning handily over the Scots to move to 2-0 in conference play.

The Scots were short a player, meaning No. 3 doubles went to Piedmont by default. Then, RACHEL MARSH and ABBEY GRACE VENHAM rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles while IMANI VINCENT and MAGGIE MOODY did the same at No. 2 doubles.

With No. 6 singles going to the Lady Lions by default, Piedmont needed just one singles win to take the match.

The clincher came from Venham, who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. In the five singles matches that were played, Piedmont only dropped eight total games with the Scots not gaining more than two games in any one set.

Vincent rolled 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 while Gish just dropped one game at No. 3. 

Marsh picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 as MIA VASHER won once again, prevailing 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5.

Match 2: Sewanee 9, Piedmont 0

The No. 7 ranked Tigers improved to 9-2 on their season with a 9-0 win over the Lady Lions.

Sewanee won 8-3 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and went up 3-0 in the match with an 8-0 win at No. 3.

The Tigers took all six singles lines in straight sets with the Lady Lions putting up a fight in a few matches.

DAKOTA WILKES took her opponent to a tiebreaker in the first set No. 3 singles while ALI WILSON took five games in the second set.

Up next, the Lady Lions, who are ranked No. 14 in the Atlantic South Region, will play at Agnes Scott this Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m.
