BEREA, Ky. - For the third time this season, the Piedmont women's tennis team split its squad, delivering a pair of road wins on Friday evening.

The Lady Lions began the day with a 6-3 win at Mississippi Univ. for Women before opening USA South competition with a dominant 9-0 sweep at Berea.

Match 1: Piedmont 6, MUW 3

Piedmont began the day in Mississippi, with a squad of mostly underclassmen taking on the Owls.

Doubles began with a pair of 8-0 Piedmont victories to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead going into singles. MARION SLOYAN and DAKOTA WILKES teamed up to win 8-0 at No. 1 while ALLISON DEMPSEY and ALYSSA MCSPADDEN won by the same margin at No. 2.

The Lady Lions then took four of the six singles lines to make it a 6-3 final tally.

Three of Piedmont's four singles wins came in dominant fashion as McSpadden and Sloyan did not drop a game at No. 1 and No. 2 while ALI WILSON rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5.

The other three matches were decided in third-set match tiebreakers with TYLER PERRY winning a hard-fought point at No. 3 (5-7, 7-6 (1), 1-0 (8)).

Match 2: Piedmont 9, Berea 0

The dominance continued into Friday evening at Berea, with the Lady Lions only dropping two games total across singles and doubles on their way to the 9-0 sweep.

RACHEL MARSH and ABBEY GRACE VENHAM won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles as they were matched at No. 2 by IMANI VINCENT and MELISSA GISH, and No. 3 by MAGGIE MOODY and BROOK PATTON, who teamed up for the first time this season.

The Lady Lions won four of the six singles lines without dropping a game as Gish made it 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 before Moody clinched the match, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Venham and Vincent were perfect at No. 1 and No. 2 while MIA VASHER and Patton each dropped only one game on the way to easy wins at No. 5 and No. 6.

Up next, the Lady Lions will have another split squad day on Saturday, taking on nationally-ranked Sewanee at 2 p.m. and also taking on Maryville in a conference match at the same time.
