DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team split its squad on Thursday, picking up a 9-0 nonconference win at LaGrange while hosting D-II Young Harris in a 6-1 loss in the evening.

Piedmont's win at LaGrange means the Lady Lions are still undefeated against Division III opponents this season.

Match 1: Piedmont 9, LaGrange 0

The Lady Lions made quick work of the Panthers, turning in a dominant shutout win to improve to 13-1 on the season.

The Panthers only had four available players, meaning Piedmont took No. 3 doubles as well as No. 5 and 6 singles by default.

Leading 1-0 before a point was played in doubles, the Lady Lions still dominated the remaining two matches, not dropping a game in either. HOLLAN RABENSDORF and ALI WILSON picked up a win at No. 2 while DANNIE EVANS and BROOK PATTON earned a win at No. 1.

Singles brought more Piedmont domination, with the Lady Lions clinching the match at 5-0 with default wins at No. 5 and No. 6.

In the matches that were played, the Lady Lions only lost five total games, with RACHEL MARSH and Patton winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

Evans was up 6-0 and 4-0 in the second set when her opponent retired.

Freshman ANNA LASSITER picked up her third singles win of the season, battling through a hard-fought first set to win 7-5, before taking the second, 6-0.

Match 2: Young Harris 6, Piedmont 1

Playing under the lights in Demorest, the Lady Lions were unable to overtake the Division II Mountain Lions in a 6-1 loss.

Playing Division II scoring rules, Young Harris took the doubles point and a 1-0 lead into singles.

The Mountain Lions quickly clinched the match with three singles win in straight sets at 4-0.

However, the Lady Lions battled in the remaining three lines, taking all to third-set superbreakers.

Singles action was highlighted by a thrilling win from ABBEY GRACE VENHAM, who battled back from dropping her first set to take the second and then outlast her opponent, 12-10, in the third-set match breaker to put a point on the board for the Lady Lions.

Venham was victorious at No. 1 and the Lady Lions also saw some success at the bottom of the lineup, as ALYSSA MCSPADDEN and DAKOTA WILKES each took a set at No. 5 and No. 6 before losing in third-set match breakers.

Up next, the Lady Lions will split their squad again, battling Mississippi University for Women tomorrow at 3 p.m. and Berea at 5:30 p.m. in the USA South opener.
