DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team pulled off a smooth home win against Johnson & Wales with a perfect score 9-0 Saturday afternoon in Demorest.
The Lions dominated in both doubles and singles, winning in straight sets throughout the entire afternoon. Each player to compete claimed a win in their matchup.
The Lions remained victorious through both #1 and #2 doubles lines, along with a default win due to an absence of a player at #3 doubles.
Following doubles, the Lions were in the lead 3-0 and only needed 2 more points to clinch the match and secure the afternoon.
Heading into singles, the Lions yet again obtained a default win at #6 singles due to an absent player. To polish the afternoon, sophomore
LEO GALARZA delivered a (6-0) (6-0) clincher in straight sets, at No. 3 singles giving the Lions their second win of the week.
To further the lions score,
COOPER KEWORK claimed a (6-0) (6-3) win at No. 2 followed by
RYAN RAUGH (6-3) (6-3) at No.1. The Lions were still not finished yet as
KODY DILLS at No.4 and
JC FOSTER at No.5 both acquired straight set wins to close out a very successful day.
Up next, the Lions will head to LaGrange for a nonconference match next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- With needing only 1 more win to seal the match,
LEO GALARZA delivered a comfortable 6-0 6-0 win.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The sophomore LEO GALARZA stood out in the home match, obtaining his first clincher of the year for the Lions.
