Moody Breaks Record as Lady Lions Sweep Orlando Trip with 9-0 Win over Saint Mary's

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Piedmont women's tennis team remained unblemished on the season and concluded its Orlando trip at 5-0 with a 9-0 shutout against Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on Tuesday night.

Senior MAGGIE MOODY teamed with MELISSA GISH at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-4 to become the program record holder for combined singles and doubles wins. Moody now sits at 101 victories as a Lion, breaking former teammate MEGAN WALDHEIM's previous mark of 100.

Moody and Gish's doubles win capped a fantastic doubles slate for the Lady Lions, who received an 8-1 win from ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and RACHEL MARSH at No. 2 and an 8-4 victory from ALYSSA MCSPADDEN and IMANI VINCENT at No. 1.


 

Already in full control, Piedmont continued its outstanding play into singles, winning all six lines in straight sets.

No Lady Lion surrendered more than three games in the No. 1 through No. 5 spots in the lineup, with Gish completing a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Vincent remains unbeaten this season in singles action, leading the team with a 7-0 record.

Venham (6-1, 6-2) cruised at the No. 1 slot for the second time today while McSpadden (6-1, 6-0) and MARION SLOYAN (6-1, 6-1) put on clinical displays at No. 4 and No. 5.

Playing at No. 6, DAKOTA WILKES completed the shutout with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6. Wilkes is now at 5-0 in singles play this season.

Up next, the Lady Lions will return home and host Pfeiffer this Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Gish and Moody's 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles completed the doubles sweep and put the Lady Lions on the path to another victory.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Venham, Gish, Vincent and McSpadden pulled double duty, winning in both singles and doubles.
