Lady Lions Win Fourth in a Row, Down Methodist 6-3

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team remains unbeaten after a 6-3 home win on Saturday afternoon against Methodist.

The Lady Lions secured two out of three doubles lines, building the momentum for success in singles action.

In a challenging match, freshman ALYSSA MCSPADDEN prevailed, clinching the win for Piedmont at 5-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.



 



 

The win marked Piedmont head coach Trey Martin's 50th in just his fourth season leading the program.


The Monarchs began the afternoon with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, but the Lady Lions fought back from being down at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to break into singles play with a 2-1 lead.

After Methodist won at No. 6 in straight sets in singles play to tie 2-2, MARION SLOYAN secured the first point for the Lions at No. 3 in singles play in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. 

 

With singles No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 on the courts, Piedmont continued to advance forward with the Monarchs closely trailing behind. However, Methodist was unable to overtake Piedmont as ALYSSA MCSPADDEN sealed the afternoon 5-3 at No. 4 (6-3, 6-4) awarding the Lions with their fourth win of the season.
 
Increasing the score, reigning USA South Player of the Year IMANI VINCENT won a hard-fought three set match 6-3, 6-7, 10-5 settling Piedmont into a 6-3 win overall.
 
Up next, the Lions will travel to Regis College Sunday, Feb. 27 for a three day tournament in Orlando, Florida

TURNING POINT: 
- With the match tied at 2-2, MARION SLOYAN completed a 6-1 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles to swing momentum back toward the Lions.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Doubles partners, No.1 IMANI VINCENT and No. 4 ALYSSA MCSPADDEN both secured wins in doubles and singles play closing out the 6-3 win.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- The win marked the 50th in head coach Trey Martin's career.
