ORLANDO, Fla. - The Piedmont women's tennis team delivered a 9-0 shutout against Regis to open its Orlando Spring Break Trip on Sunday evening.
The Lady Lions dominated throughout, not dropping a single set and winning all three doubles matches convincingly in the shutout.
The 5-0 start marks the first for the program since the 2018-19 season.
Doubles play set the tone for the convincing win as Piedmont dropped just three total games across the three lines.
MELISSA GISH and
MAGGIE MOODY opened the festiviities with a clinical 8-0 win at No. 2 before the No. 1 team of
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN and
IMANI VINCENT prevailed 8-2 at No. 1. The No. 3 team of
RACHEL MARSH and
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM then delivered an 8-1 win at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep.
Singles play brought more of the same, as the Lady Lions won all six matches in straight sets.
MARION SLOYAN continued her outstanding play, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to put Piedmont within a point of clinching the match. For the second straight match, the freshman McSpadden delivered the clincher, with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles.
Vincent rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 before
ALLISON DEMPSEY (6-2, 6-3),
BROOK PATTON (6-1, 6-2) and
RAILEY RICHARDSON (7-5, 6-4) helped the Lady Lions complete the shutout with wins at 4, 5 and 6.
Up next, the Lady Lions will take on Houghton at 8 a.m. tomorrow before concuding the day with a 2 p.m. match against Warner.
