Piedmont Stuns #7 Birmingham-Southern 18-9

DEMOREST, Ga. - After trailing by seven through the first four innings, the Piedmont University baseball team pulled off an improbable comeback scoring 18 straight to claim an 18-9 victory over the #7 Panthers.

The upset was in large part thanks to TYLER ROON's poise on the mound coming in to toss 2.1 innings of clean work and stop the onslaught of the Panthers. BSC forced Piedmont to use three different pitchers through the first four innings putting up seven runs on seven hits. 

The Lions' offense was electrifying from the fourth inning on as they produced six runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, a single run in each the sixth and seventh and piled on eight more in the eighth. 

Piedmont managed six runs in the fourth inning on just three hits and an error. The Lions were walked a total of 14 times including ALEX GONZALEZ walking five times in the contest after his home run in the eighth against CNU Friday. 

In the eighth inning, the Lions put on a showcase with NOAH AARON tripling, JACK GILSENAN blasting a bases clearing double and CARTER BALLSTADT smashing a three-run homerun.
     
BSC stranded 14 on the basepaths while Piedmont left nine runners on base. 

Birmingham-Southern was dominant in their first outing of the season claiming a 14-2 win over Christopher Newport Friday. 

Up next, Piedmont heads to Oglethorpe on Tuesday for a midweek matchup at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--TYLER ROON entered on the mound to start the fifth inning and his 2.1 innings of scoreless ball gave the Lions the boost needed to claim the victory.



STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Roon faced 11 batters giving up just four hits and recorded a strikeout.
--The offense was electric but it was KYLE CARLSON who was the lone Lion to record more than one hit going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Birmingham-Southern recorded more hits than Piedmont in the contest. 

NEWS AND NOTES:
--This marks the third time in the last five meetings of BSC at Piedmont that the Lions have scored in double digits.
