WILMORE, Ky. - The Piedmont University women's soccer team ended the 2022 regular season with a 2-0 win over Asbury late Monday afternoon.
Despite being out shot in the first half, the Lady Lions were able to score first in the contest. Both teams traded opportunities for the first 20 minutes but it was Piedmont that capitalized. After being subbed on in the 21st minute, Forward
KAYLEE KING wasted no time putting her first shot in the back of the net. The score line moved to 1-0 less than three minutes after King stepped on the pitch.
Both teams would have multiple chances before the half ended but neither found the back of the net.
Out of half time, the Lady Lions dominated the shot category. In the 62nd minute, a forced error by the Asbury defense gave Piedmont its best opportunity in the half thus far. Sophomore Midfielder
VICTORIA SIERRA corralled the mistake and converted the opportunity to make the contest 2-0 in favor of the Lady Lions.
The contest finished 2-0, with Piedmont Freshman Keeper
MAGGIE LEGER holding the clean sheet with seven saves.
Up next, the Lady Lions will play at home in the CCS Quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 29. They will take on the winner of Agnes Scott vs Wesleyan in Demorest, with a time to be announced at a later date.
