DEMOREST, Ga. - In the final regular season midweek contest of the season, the Piedmont University volleyball team was able to make quick work of Wesleyan taking down the Wolves in straight sets. The 3-0 win moved Piedmont to 6-8 in league play with the final weekend of the regular season coming Saturday. 

The Lady Lions raced out to an 18-6 lead after a 10-0 run and ran away with the first set 25-11. The second set saw the Wolves keep pace for a time before Piedmont used another late run to create space.

Piedmont led 24-15, but the Wolves threatened with three straight points before the Lady Lions capitalized to finish the set 25-18. In the third, the Lady Lions rode momentum to an 8-2 start, but the Wolves did not back down. 

Despite trailing 13-5, Wesleyan was able to make it a battle down the stretch and pulled within three trailing 18-15. The Lady Lions closed it out 25-20 to seal the 3-0 win. 

BROOKLYN GUNN tallied 19 assists while senior JENNIFER HERRERA added 11. MARY-GRACE SHAW was key with three service aces.

Up next, the Lady Lions travel to Berea to face the Mountaineers and Huntingdon in the final matches of the regular season.

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont was dominant out of the gate with a 25-11 win in the opening set. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--JESSICA SCONYERS and ALAINA MCDONALD led Piedmont with seven kills each in the contest.
--TAYLOR HERRMANN tallied 27 digs in the three-setter.
